Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 2026

1. Who we are

These terms are a contract between you and RideGuard ("RideGuard", "we", "us"). By using our website or hazard map, you agree to these terms.

2. The service

RideGuard provides a free, community-sourced hazard map for cyclists and riders in London, together with route planning, Ride Mode (live GPS follow, safest-route navigation, and proximity hazard alerts), optional web push safety alerts, and a Brand Ambassador programme. Reports and hazard data are user-submitted and provided as-is; we do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Always ride to the conditions in front of you and follow the Highway Code.

2a. Ride Mode & navigation

Ride Mode uses your device's GPS and gives turn-by-turn directions and audible alerts. Directions are guidance only and may be incomplete, delayed, or wrong. You are solely responsible for your riding, for obeying traffic laws, and for judging whether a route is safe. Do not stare at your phone while riding — mount it, use audio cues, or stop safely to check the screen.

3. Acceptable use

You must not misuse the service. In particular, you may not: use it for unlawful purposes; submit fraudulent, spam, or infringing content; interfere with security (including malware, probing, scraping, or unauthorised access); or infringe anyone's intellectual property rights.

4. Accounts

If you create an account you must provide accurate information, keep your credentials confidential, and are responsible for activity under your account.

5. Intellectual property

RideGuard and all associated software, design, branding, and documentation are owned by RideGuard. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service for its intended purpose. You may not reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the service or circumvent its technical limits.

6. User content

You retain ownership of hazard reports and other content you submit but grant RideGuard a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and process that content solely to operate and improve the service.

6b. Brand Ambassador programme

Brand Ambassadors are riders we invite to represent RideGuard. Ambassadors receive a personal referral code and any perks we describe when inviting you. Ambassadors must not misrepresent RideGuard, spam, buy fake referrals, or bring the project into disrepute. We can end the arrangement at any time; unused perks are non-transferable and have no cash value.

6c. Notifications

If you opt in to email safety alerts or web push notifications, you can unsubscribe at any time from the email footer, from the Support page, or in your browser settings. Transactional messages (account, dispatch) may continue while you use the service.

7. Warranties and liability

The RideGuard service (hazard map, Ride Mode, navigation, alerts) is provided free of charge and on an "as is" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. RideGuard is not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages (including loss of profits, data, goodwill, or injury caused by relying on hazard data or navigation guidance) arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited under English law.

8. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your access for material breach of these terms, security or fraud risk, or repeated policy violations. You may stop using the service at any time.

9. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
